Summary:
Receives incoming calls for police and security services, dispatches officers as appropriate, and monitors police radio alarms.
Documents police and security service requests in an electronic records management and dispatch system.
Operates National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer, a computer aided mobile dispatch system, and an ACU 100 interoperable radio console.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Receives calls concerning crimes, emergencies, and other requests for police assistance; monitors and responds to 911 calls from 2 University systems, as well as from campus Blue Light emergency telephones.
Monitors fire and burglar alarms and alarm systems for all university buildings.
Operates a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer, a computer aided mobile dispatch (CAD) system, and an ACU 100 interoperable radio console.
Broadcasts orders to patrol officers in vicinity to investigate complaint or request when appropriate; relays instructions or questions from remote units.
Coordinates departmental paging in the event of a campus emergency.
Records calls broadcast and complaints received; performs data entry on computer.
Relays radio and telephone messages between police officers and the community.
Performs receptionist duties; responds to questions from walk-in and telephone traffic.
Controls access to Police Department secured areas; monitors the department's closed circuit camera and intercom systems.
Performs various clerical duties including completing the electronic dispatch log and filing police reports.
Serves as clearing house for University-wide emergency call lists.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.
):
High school diploma or GED; no previous work experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of radio dispatch regulations, procedures, protocols, and/or equipmentKnowledge of fire and burglar alarm systems reportingRecords maintenance skillsSkill in the use of computers and ability to use NCIC identification and Computer Aided Dispatch softwareComputer data entry skillsClerical, word processing, and/or office skillsReceptionist skillsAbility to react calmly and effectively in emergency situationsAbility to interact and communicate with people over the telephone, often in stressful situationsAbility to effectively operate an ACU 100 interoperable radio consoleAbility to perform multiple tasks and solve problems in a technical setting Additional Information:
SALARY:
The salary for each position is based on the grade/tier in which the position is placed, and the salary within the grade/tier is based on the number of years of related experience or number of years in hiring rank.
